GTR Euroserie was founded in 1998 by Stephane Ratel (former BPR) especially for privateers with GT cars as a reaction to growing costs in FIA GT Championship in 1997 which became very professional. It was creates to return the atmosphere of BPR Global GT Endurance races. All races will longed four hours.
The championship didn't fulfil expectations. There was really a small number of regular runners and organisers had problems to fill grids using local competitiors. So GTR Euroserie was abadoned during its first and only season.
